The words: indefinitely, outsmart, phantom, towel, alienated
Here's my entry:
The boy sits brooding in the murky silence of his room. A sliver of sunlight edges past the beach towel he's hung over the window and reaches along the floor to slice his bare foot. He hides in the shadows a lot these days, a phantom of sorts, alienated from his parents by the mere fact of age. He wants to love them, but he hates them, too. They don't understand his need to evade and outsmart them at every turn. "Why do you lie?" they always ask him. It's clear they're more disappointed than angry, and that makes it worse, somehow. They just don't get it. They want him to remain a child indefinitely, the easy-going little boy they used to hug, and play games with, and tuck into bed at night. One day, they'll have to admit he's not a child and set him free. For now, he takes comfort in the solitude of his room, where he's in control.

Ah, the illusion of control. It's a beautiful thing when you're that age.
I get through one, and here's another...
this is awesome, Red. I'm off to pull something together...
Hops - It's an illusion at any age, eh? I don't even kid myself that I have control anymore. ;)
RPM - I feel like I'm always behind on them, too. Thanks.
Cate - thanks, and right back at you.
Nacwolin - been there, done that. I'm just lucky I can remember that long ago.
