How was The Red Tent? I heard good things about it. Ohh! And Stardust! I looove Neil Gaiman. I wanted to read that before I see the movie. Which of all of these was your favorite?
I felt the same way about Stardust - I wanted to read it before seeing the film. I loved it! In fact, it's my favorite of the bunch. Gaiman is a wonderful writer.
A Mighty Heart and Songs Without Words were also excellent.
I enjoyed The Red Tent, but I had heard so much about it that I probably expected too much from it. It's worth a read, but not amazing, IMHO.
jodi, i read american gods as my first novel and loved it. i then went on to read neverwhere (interesting, but did not wow me as much as american gods) and then stardust. which was a nice fairytale.
it depends on what mood you are in, i think. american gods is set in comtemporary times and is quite dark. same with neverwhere, tho that comes off as more alice in wonderland fantastic, set in london of the 1990's.
I just became acquainted with Gaiman's work this year. In response to this post, my Vox neighbors gave me some advice. I started with Neverwhere. I have to say that I've enjoyed everything I've read so far. American Gods and Anansi Boys are the longer and more contemporary of the bunch. Stardust was much lighter and more fanciful. I really enjoyed Fragile Things, his short story collection, for the range of subject matter and mood. On a side note, I've found his website interesting.
Thank you for replying back, can't wait to get started on my books now. Really hoping I enjoy Neverwhere, otherwise I do have a tendency to never read another book by the same author again if I hate it!!
I startedwith Neverwhere and that's what got me hooked on Gaiman. It kind of reminded me of Clive Barker's Weaveworld which was the first book of his I read too. I think you'll like it. :)
